Stress makes the abnormal electrical activity in your heart more likely to occur. This is why it is crucial to eat well-balanced meals and getting enough sleep each night.
Emotions play an important role in many bodily functions. Being stressed can lead to tight muscles and soreness. Fear, anxiety, or extreme happiness can cause your heart to race or make you feel like your heart has skipped a beat. The range of strong emotions you experience in certain situations can also trigger AFib episodes.
Although rare, an increase in physical exertion can bring on signs of an AFib event. Exercise is a healthy habit for almost everyone to embrace. Exercise is in-fact a positive lifestyle adjustment that helps people cope with atrial fibrillation. Talk to your doctor before starting a new exercise plan.
Much controversy surrounds caffeine being a direct trigger for Afib but as a known stimulant, caffeine can invigorate your central nervous system and raise your heart rate. As a diuretic, caffeine can also cause you to urinate more frequently which can lead to dehydration, another trigger for AF. If you feel that caffeine makes your arrhythmias worse, steer clear of coffee, tea, and other caffeinated drinks.
You may have an AFib event if you’re dehydrated. A change in fluid levels in your body can affect a number of bodily functions, including heart function. As above, alcohol and caffeinated drinks may cause dry out your system quicker, increasing your risk even more. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially in hot weather or when you exercise.
