Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Complex GI Centre

Which patients can benefit?

We treat patients who are suffering with complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. This also includes patients who have:
  • Associated nutritional needs
  • Gastrointestinal (GI) fistulas
  • Gastrointestinal obstruction

Examples of treatments and procedures

  • Kono-S Anastomosis

Anastomotic complications can occur more frequently in patients with Crohn's disease. Kono-S anastomosis is a technique where a hand-sewn, end-to-end anastomosis is used to reduce the re-occurrence of these complications.

  • Michelassi Isoperistaltic strictureplasty

This bowel-sparing technique can be used instead of a conventional resection. It’s designed to minimise the removal of sections of the small bowel when treating Crohn’s disease.

  • Ileo-anal pouch and Barnett Continent Ileal Reservoir

These procedures are used to restore continence to the bowel, following removal of the colon and rectum. An ileo-anal pouch allows the small bowel (ileum) to act in a similar way to the rectum.
